Now normally im not one to worry, but what is happening with the injuries?

So far we have had injured, Gordon, McCartney, Turner, Kilgalon, Bramble, Meyler, Reid, Cattermole, and after last night, Bent and Jones. Including that I dont think Da silva or Riveros are at training yet?

Just a thought, I like players to hit the ground running when league games come around. Missing so many games is.... worry/! :D

It's certainly a worry but Meyler, McCartney (confirmed out for around four weeks), Gordon and Reid aside, the rest are just niggles you would expect from pre-season.

Turner, Bramble, Catts, Bent and Jones should all return against Leicester, with Kilgallon back the week after.

The worry wasnt the injury lenght, more the amount of pre season games they seem to be missng.

Apart from the lads who are out with long term injuries, the majority of our squad have featured in at least three of the pre-season games so far.

Turner, Cattermole (who played last night) and Kilgallon have only played in two but should be back against Leicester at the weekend, as should Jones and Bent.

Hopefully there will be no more injuries after that !

Somehow I doubt it- unfortunately.

Having players break-down during warm conditions while not being put through the riggers of league action doesn't look positive for the cold, hard slog of mid-season which was crippling to last seasons campaign.

Sidenote: I see you have article writer on your user-name now 'cj'- is this on the main website alongside 'Harvey'?

Apparently, so the rumours say, there are also criticisms of Bruce training methods that have caused friction with the medical staff. Things like rushing players back too quickly, not doing warm downs after matches/training, and signing players with poor injury records etc.

Cattermole is a case in point. He felt his groin against Munster but played against Darlington and aggravated it further. Taking too much of a risk in early meaningless pre-season friendlies IMO.

Re the sidenote: It does mate - I'll be writing stuff to help Luke out as and when I can.

I noted last season that players were unavailable prior to games that seemed to be injured during taining, which was a frustration for me & said training methods would be the most probable cause- high intensity, competition & mis-management are general causes of injury during trainings- sh*t does happen but it seems to happen too often & SAFC can't afford players being crocked consistantly.

As yet, there is not the squad-depth to put players @ risk of injury or afford players time to nurse niggles/knocks & this may be why some are pushed but if you burn the candle @ both ends everyone suffers- results mainly.

Good luck with your writing- I shall look-out for your articles.

Cheers mate, I appreciate that.

According to a former employee on the medical staff, Bruce was always rushing players back before they were fit. After Cattermole got injured for the millionth time, the physio had him back running within two weeks with no ill effects. He told Bruce that the lad would have to spend a lot of time strengthening his muscles as he was likely to injure himself again if he was thrown back in too soon. Bruce ignored this and played him in the following Saturday's game and what happened? Cattermole's hamstring went.

But I guess desperate times called for desperate measures.

I used to smile at NUFC's horrendous injury problems but not so full of myself this summer.

Reading that Henderson was re-placed by Liddle after tweaking his knee- not good.
