The last few weeks has seen Cana renage on his duties to protect the back four.
Either he or Cattermole needs to anchor themselves in front of the back four, or we will continue to fight what is beginning to look like a losing battle against relegation.

Well said, this is what I and alot of people mentioned in the change of formation topic, but I dnt think it's alot to do with Cana. When it was Cana and Henderson on the middle Henderson stuck to his position and so did Cana when Cattermole is in the team he runs around like a headless chicken, he does put in great tackles but leaves Cana with two men to deal with

For me the problem is due to the way we play at the moment. The ball is just by-passing the midfield, 50 yard high hoofs from back to front. This means that Cana is just having to follow the ball to stop us defending to deep & to try & add some sort of support to the front 2 in the middle. His game is about winning it & using it short, as he was when we were playing well at the start of the season, he just can't do that when we play as we are now, as result his form is suffering.

Now I think the opposite in that Cana is better with Cattermole and it's Henderson's run in midfield - and not staying in position - that has coincided with his bad form.

The long ball game doesn't help at all either.

Think the back four and midfield need to learn some disipline, Don't know if was just me, but they seemed to be roaming where they wanted, We need to start playing abit faster, everytime the ball went back to Gordon, He seemed to let the Wigan players get back into position, Was the same with free kicks,

I would be interesting to see that challange again when Reid burst into the box, Where i was sitting it was adeffo pen. But I,ve not got the best of eye's when it come's to SAFC.
Think we have to split up Cana and catts in the middle, cannot seem to play together, Bit like Gerrard and Lamps, both wanna be in the same area's Or is it just me?

Gerrard and Lampard never seemed to do it under Sven/Mac but the problem if there was one seems to have disappeared with Capello.
What's that tell you?

To be honest, their wasn't a problem with our midfield at the start of the season. The over-reliance on Cattermole and the inexperience of Henderson (in a central midfield role) has hit us badly.
