Mensah Injury Free

Touch wood John...

Quote

SUNDERLAND defender John Mensah has declared himself injury-free for the first time since arriving at the Stadium of Light last summer.

And now the Ghana international wants to go from crock of gold to Steve Bruce’s golden boy in his second season on loan from Lyon with the Black Cats.

Mensah, 27, has been outstanding whenever he has pulled on the red and white shirt but spinal trouble, which caused persistent muscle and hamstring problems, has meant he has spent as much time on the treatment table as out on the pitch.

It looked like the same old story when he tore a hamstring in Sunderland’s opening-day draw against Birmingham - but that injury was not connected and he is expected to return at Wigan on Saturday.

And Mensah, compatriot and big pal of Sunderland’s record signing Asamoah Gyan, expects a lengthy run in the first team.

“I will not be troubled by my old problems any more,” he said.

“If the boss wants me to play in every game, I will do so.

“I am now getting special treatment at Sunderland like I had during the World Cup.

“I am confident I will play every match for the rest of the season.”

Mensah rarely trains with his team-mates, instead using the gym and swimming pool.

And having brought his own personal physio with him to Sunderland, he feels things are looking up.

“I had special treatment during the World Cup and it made a big difference.

“If I follow that same programme I know I will be okay.”

Titus Targets The Top For Safc

He could very easily become a cult hero at SAFC if he continues the form that he has started at SAFC. A solid performance against Man city followed a decent debut against Birmingham and then WBA.
His big task is now returning to the DW to face Wigan on Saturday and I for one, hope he comes away with man of the match award.

He needs the confidence ahead of the tougher games against Arsenal and Liverpool among others.

He also seems to be getting ahead of himself too as of this interview I found on SkySports today talking about Europe but very pleased to see him sounding settled and happy at SAFC despite the initial concerns fans wouldnt warm to him.......

----------------------------------------------------------

New Sunderland defender Titus Bramble believes the Black Cats can finish in the Premier League's European places this season.

The 28-year-old centre-half has been in good form since his summer move from Wigan, having linked up with former Latics boss Steve Bruce once more.

Sunderland managed a 1-0 win over big-spending Manchester City last weekend, a game in which powerful defender Bramble was particularly impressive.

Having lost out to West Brom the week before, Bramble was happy his side showed their true colours against City and says the Wearsiders are capable of qualifying for Europe.

"We have some really good players here and if we can get some better luck with injuries, I don't see why we can't push for a European place," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"Of course, getting a win over a team like Manchester City helps give everyone a lift, the sort of performance and result which boosts confidence.

"We have a platform to build on now and hopefully we can go to Wigan after the international break and get something from that game as well.

"I know the away form was a problem last season for Sunderland and I've already been part of one poor performance on the road and I don't want another, especially as it's against the manager's and my former club.

"We were bad against West Brom and it just wasn't good enough really. We have shown how well we can play against Manchester City - now we have to maintain those standards."

Bramble admits he was slightly concerned about the reception he might receive at the Stadium of Light because of his Newcastle past, but says the Sunderland fans have been fantastic since his arrival.

"The fans have been great ever since I got here and I want to repay them for that," he added.

"I always said when I came here that it was up to me to prove myself as a Sunderland player out on the pitch and things have gone pretty well for me so far.

"I still think I need a few games to be at my best, but I've settled in well and it has been everything I'd hoped for when I decided I wanted to come here.

"It's an excellent club and I'm really enjoying it. You can talk as much as you want, but fans are going to warm to you if they see you are playing well on a matchday. That's all that matters."

Happy Or Not?

The transfer window has now closed and we are left with this lot untill atleast January.

I have just seen who has been included in our 25 man squad for the season and obviously it includes all of the new boys and to be honest I cant see anyone missing. Even David Healy is in there!

Looking at the whole grand scheme of things and without sitting on the fence, are you happy or not with the comings and goings this Summer?

Would be interested to see who is pleased at this moment in time.....

Me personally, buzzing after signing Gyan even though its a risk....and the new signings are all showing promise.

This is Steve Bruce's team finally and no going back. This is the season for Brucie's SAFC to show us what theyre all about.

Vote Above

Losing To The Enemy

Even though the scum went down to ten men(with the score at 2-0)after 40 mins or so,Sunderland reserves failed to push home the numerical advantage.Run outs for Mc Cartney(at centre half!)and Andy Reid are possibly the only welcome plus points to be gained.I know there aint many Macca fans on here but i'd play him with any day instead of Rico,as it's where he plays. That's his position! As for Andy Reid, everyone must want the best footy player at the club back asap.Thank god the rumour earlier today that he was at Portman road proved to be tosh Back to the topic-bad result
